Great information to athletes who want to be involved in athletics at a Canadian University.

Athletics Canada has put together a detailed list of universities throughout Canada that offer Track and Field and Cross Country  teams as part of the extra curricular activities to potential students. This reading is highly recommended to all students who are thinking about attending a Canadian University and want to continue in our sport. The information can be found in the Links section of the Athletics NB website under the title of Canada  University Athletics.

Last Chance meet produces great results
Moncton- Some athletes took full advantage of the the last meet of 2008. Highlights included three (pending) NB provincial records in juvenile boys  LJ , midget girls HJ and juvenile boys 60mH.
Michael Knowles (CHAL), jumped 6.62m  witch betters the previous record by over 50 cm. While Stephanie Doiron (SEA) high jumped a personal best of 1m61 to beat the previous midget girls record by 1 cm.  Her team mate Alex Stuart also ran faster then the provincial record in the juvenile boys 60mH (9.40e).

 Reminder----New Years Training Camp

Reminder to all athletes about the 2009 New Year’s Athletics Training Camp to be held at Camp Gagetown from January 2nd to 3rd.
The Canada Games coaches are supporting this initiative and are encouraging athletes who are trying out for the team to attend. Arrangements are being made to ensure the anti doping session, that ALL potential Canada Games athletes must attend prior to the games, will be offered.

Other sessions include:-

¨ Video analysis you in your chosen events,

¨ A sports psychologist’s lecture,

¨ Physical testing program developed by the New Brunswick Summer Games Sports Physiologists

¨ Mental Preparation for the competitive athlete.

¨ Relay techniques.

It is open to all athletes who are born in 1997 or earlier. The aim of this year’s camp will be to help athletes to prepare for one of three teams New Brunswick will be fielding next year at the National and International level, namely the Jeux Canada Games Team in PEI, the Provincial Team representing our province at the International Jeux de la Francophonie Games in Lebanon and the Royal Canadian Legion team in Sherbrooke  QC. Dec 1 2008 - Canadian Cross Country Championships Res

Canadian Cross Country Championships Results

New Brunswick athletes raced over the cold, snow covered course in Guelph, Ontario at the Canadian Cross Country Championships.

In the Junior Women's event Geneviève Lalonde finished in 4th place, with a time of 17.48.0 over the 5km course. Barry Briit finished 13th in the 8km Junior Men's race in a time of 26:24.0 seconds. Joël Bourgeois finished 7th completing the 10km course in 31:53.3 in the Senior Men's race.
