Oct 31 2010 - Team New Brunswick shines at Atlantic Cross Country Championship

The Atlantic Cross Country championship where held on Saturday, October 30 in Antigonish Nova Scotia. Over 250 athletes took the starting line for individual title and team title.
The first race of the day saw Grace Anear (SJTC) win the junior, juvenile and senior race in a great time of 18:56 over 5km. The Men’s race was won by Halifax’s Toby Hennigar while Alex Coffin (SJTC) was 3rd. Team New Brunswick was also able to finish 3rd in the team title in the senior men’s event.

The youth race was won by Matt McNeil (SJTC) covering the 7.5 km distance in just over 25 minutes. Lee Wesselius (ASEA) was second in 25:14. Team New Brunswick also won the youth team title team member was Matt McNeil, Lee Wesselius, Scott McMullin, Dylan Hébert and Robin Murdock.

Joshua Shanks (SJTC) won the Midget Boys race running the muddy 3.5km race in 11:36. Clark Wesselius (ASEA) was third in this race with 11:54. While Katie Robinson (SJTC) won the midget girl’s event in 13:11 (also 3.5km). Team New Brunswick won the midget girls team title. Team members included Katie Robinson, Charlotte Schwarz, Alexie Noble, Hannah Arsenault and Madison Dayton


Taylor Dunn (FLTC) won the Bantam girls event (2km in 8:05) She was joined on the podium by 2 other new Brunswick athletes Mackenzie Amos (FFT) and Megan McCarthy (FFT). Team New Brunswick captured the team title in this event. Team members were: Taylor Dunn, Mackenzie Amos, Megan McCarthy, Rachel Hopper, Isabelle Nickerson and Charly Bonga. On the bantam boys side New Brunswick had the top 2 finishers with Charles Waugh (FFT) winning the 2km event in 7:43. Andrew LeBlanc (FFT) was second in 7:46. Team New Brunswick was able to capture the team title with team members:
Charles Waugh, Andrew Leblanc, Mark Wallace, Brady Graves, Alexander Amos              and Cameron Dick    


Team New Brunswick also won the team title in the Girl’s Peewee division.  Robyn Davis (FFT) won the gold medal for team NB, while Hannah Cormier was 3rd. The other team members were Haylee Touchburn, Emilee Hoellwarth           and Grace Kiely. Brad McMullin was the lone New Brunswick athlete in the peewee boy’s event and captured the bronze medal.


With 14 individual medals and 5 team titles to say New Brunswick had a successful championship would be a big understatement. Congratulation to all that participated!

Oct 25 2010 - 2010 NB Middle Schools Cross Country Championship

The 5th annual NB Middle School XC Championships were held at River Valley Middle School on Saturday, October 23, 2010. Almost 140 athletes representing schools from across New Brunswick competed in the races for girls and boys in grades 6, 7 and 8. Runners ran for individual and team honors in each grade division and Over All Provincial Championships were awarded to the schools with the top 6 placings in boys and girls.

George St. Middle School of Fredericton dominated the meet with their teams winning 3 of the 6 grade level events on their way to capturing both the Boys & Girls Overall Championships.

Oct 18 2010 - NBIAA cross country

Strong wind and HEAVY rain did not stop over 450 runners cross the finish line this past Friday at the 2010 NBIAA Cross country championship. All races were won by an ANB member. Katie Robinson led the Saint John high junior girl’s team, repeating her first-place finish from last year in the 3-kilometre event at Odell Park with a time of 11 minutes, 45.63 seconds. In junior boys, Nick MacMackin was the winner for the second year in a row leading the Saint John High Greyhound squad to its first boys cross-country provincial title since 1986. The Senior girls race was won by Grace Annear of Hampton High (also a repeat champion) in a time of 15:08.14 over 4-km The team title went to Leo Hayes who were lead by Natalie Cecire’s 3rd place finish. In the Senior Boys race, Ryan Cassidy was the overall winner for the second year in a row with a time of 16:33.65 while Fredericton High school won  the team champions.

Oct 3 2010 - 2010 Development of Speed Conference

 

Athletics New Brunswick is proud to announce that The Development of Speed Speed Conference will take place on November 12-14th in Toronto, ON and that ANB will offer financial help for coaches to attend this great opportunity. This is an excellent opportunity to take part in a conference dedicated to speed training, A number of world renowned coaches including Loren Seagrave, Tom Tellez and Gary Winckler will be among presenters.
