Mar 25 2011 - Pole Vault clinic April 2nd in Moncton

Athletics New Brunswick will be  running a Pole Vault clinic in Moncton on April 2, from 9am to 1pm at the CEPS. All coaches and athletes interested in getting an introduction to the event are welcome. Please email Steve LeBlanc  teamatlantic@yahoo.ca)   to register . All registeration aredue before before March 31st..


Mar 22 2011 - Barry Britt competes at World Cross Country Championships

Congratulations to Barry Britt for placing 98th at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships that was held in  Punta Umbri ,Spain on Sunday. Barry was able to cover the 12km distance in a 38:31 only 4:41 away from the winner Imana Marga of Ethiopia. He was also the 3rd Canadian finisher. Congrats Barry!

Mar 21 2011 - Canadian Record for Robert Jackson

Congratulation to Robert Jackson for establishing a new indoor 5,000m Canadian Master Record (55-59 age category) this past Saturday at The Motley Cree Combined event challenge his time of 17:27.02 breaks the previous record held Dennis Lang of Manitoba who in 2008 ran 17:47.6.


Mar 17 2011 - Pelletier and Butler named to Athletics Coaching staff for 2013 Games

Hartland, NB – (March 16, 2011)
Athletics New Brunswick is pleased to announce Yvan Pelletier  and Jennifer Butler  have accepted to the positions of Head coach and Assistant Head coach respectively to lead Team New Brunswick at the 2013  Jeux Canada Games.  Yvan and Jennifer bring a great deal of experience to the team as both were on the coaching staff of the 2009 Canada Games team.
Yvan coaches for Fredericton Legion Track Club and Jennifer for Bathurst based Athlétisme Chaleur Athletics.
“We are very excited to have Yvan and Jennifer in these leadership roles” said President Harold Nicholson. “They are both very dedicated and hard-working people. They have a thorough knowledge of all aspects of the sport and have always strived for great results”. 
The 2013 Canada Games will take place in the 2013 Jeux du Canada Games to be held in Sherbrooke Quebec from August 2-17th .
Athletics New Brunswick (ANB) is the provincial organizing body for track and field, cross country running, race walking, and road racing. It is the official Branch of Athletics Canada.
 


Mar 13 2011 - New Brunswick Athletes shine at CIS Championships!

 

ANB was well represented at this year Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) track and field Championships. Lydia and Nadine and an extremely busy weekend, together they competed in an incredible 8 events in only 3 days! They both were members of the 4x800m team for Guelph that captured a silver medal with a time 8:49.67. Lydia also finished 5th and Nadine 6th in the 1000m (2:52.37 & 2:52.42) Lydia captured a bronze medal in the 1500m with a time of 4:32.37   (Nadine was 10th in 4:39.36) moments later both sister competed in the 4x400m and help the University of Guelpsh finished 5th (3:54.32). Also competing was Adam Gaudes who helped the University of Victoria finished 4th with a time of 3:20.35. New Brunswick born Adam Kellar also finished 7th in the men’s 1000m with a time of 2:28.56.  Congratulation Lydia, Nadine, Adam and Adam!:)


Mar 11 2011 - Duncan McGeachy among the new inductees in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame’s

Six inductees will be added to the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame’s honour role in 2011.

Duncan McGeachy of St. Stephen has been an administrator, official, technician, coach, educator, and fund-raiser for school and community athletics for more then 40 years. He coached basketball, track and field, cross country and soccer, including more than 20 provincial basketball championships at St. Stephen High School. He also guided some of the province’s best-known track and field athletes. The committee he chaired implemented his proposal to reorganize high school sports conferences, forming the prototype for the structure in place today. A tireless promoter of athletes and athletics, he has received numerous awards and recognition, including Queen’s Medals and Merit Awards, to an athletic facility being named in his honor.

Others inductees are: Luc Bourdon, Grace Donald, Guy Laviolette, Mel Murray and Joe Richard.


Mar 7 2011 - Mike Leblanc wins in New York

NEW YORK - Michael LeBlanc won the 60 metres event at the Columbia University Last Chance indoor track and field meet Saturday at the Armory Track and Field Centre

LeBlanc, running for Athlétisme Sud-Est/South-East Athletics, took the men's 60 metres in 6.72 seconds, in front of Clement Campbell (6.77) and Andre Marcano (6.86).

It was the second and last meet of LeBlanc's indoor season. He won the 60 metres in 6.74 at the Quebec indoor championships in Montreal last month.

Mar 6 2011 - 2011 Atlantic Athletics Championships

Over 150 Athletes took part in the 2011 Athletics Atlantic Indoor Championships this past Saturday in Moncton. Many of the best athletes from the Maritimes where on hand and the event was a great success.

The team title went to Athlétisme Sud Est/ South East Athletics (ASEA)  with 833 points while  Saint John Track Club was second with 444 points and Fredericton Legion Track Club was 3rd with 211 points. While New Brunswick won the Provincial Championships

This event also saw 8 provincial record established:

-Marilyn Nowlan (Club Élite Kent broke) the Bantam girls 150m record with a time of 21.04 -Hannah Arsenault (Saint John Track Club) broke her own Midget girls 2000m record with a time of 7:46.90. -Naomie Maltais (Athlétigouche) broke her own junior and senior Weight throw record with a toss of 12.71m. -James Brace  Athlétisme Sud Est South East Athletics (ASEA) broke 3 provincial record in the T54 wheelchair races. In his first event the 60m he broke the previous record of 17.72 by over 3 seconds with a time of 14.15. He also establishes a new mark in the T54 200m (41.66) and T54 400m (1:28.46

-Aaron LeBlanc (ASEA) also broke his own Youth Weight throw record wih a toss of  13.87m

-Sebastien LeBlanc (ASEA) broke his own 60m Hurdle record with a time of 11.48
