Jan 29 2012 - Michael LeBlanc off to blazing start

Pennsylvania- Michael LeBlanc of Riverview got his indoor track and field season off to a good start. The 24 year old sprinter won the 60m at the Penn State National Invitational this past Friday in a blistering time of 6.64.

In doing so he establishes the fastest time by a Canadian this season, also breaks his previous New Brunswick record of 6.67 In addition this performance also ranks Michael 10th in the world. The Canadian record is 6.45 held  by Olympian Bruny Surin.

"Michael’s performance is truly remarkable and boast well form his 2012 campaign” says Athletics New Brunswick’s technical director Gabriel LeBlanc. "His 6.67 was run in 2007 the same year he ran his 100m New Brunswick record of 10.17 which is below the qualifying standard for the 2012 Olympic Games so obviously he is on the right path." Leblanc added.

He has also met the standard to participate in the World indoor Championships that will be held in Istanbul, Turkey on March 9-11.

Jan 29 2012 - Geneviève Lalonde wins mile in Ohio

Geneva, Ohio-  Geneviève Lalonde of Moncton won the Mile event at the SPIRE Midwest Indoor Track & Field Meet in a time of 4:49.21.In doing so the 21 year old runner who runs for the University of Guelph is now ranked 3rd in Canada in this event.  The University of Guelph dominated this event by securing the top 5 spots.

Andrea Secaffien of Ontario was second in a time of 4:54.09 while  ANB members Nadine and Lydia Frost of Bocabec, New Brunswick placed 3rd and 4th in 4:54.43 and 4:54.78 .

Lalonde’s time also gives her the equivalent event standard for the 1500m to participate in the 2012 Canadian Interuniversity Sport Indoor Track and Field Championships that will take place at the Univerity of Manitoba March 8-10.

"Geneviève performance is a great start! this being her first indoor track competition of the year and already setting the standard for the CIS championship is great" said Gabriel LeBlanc Technical director of Athletics New Brunswick " We also can’t forget to mention Nadine and Lydia’s performances as there performance also put them in the top 10 in Canada. Having three New Brunswick athlete ranked in the top 10 in the same event is simply incredible.’’ added LeBlanc.

Jan 23 2012 - Coaching Course NCCP Sport Coach (In French)

 

Athletics New Brunswick, Coach NB Coach and la société des Jeux d'Acadie is proud to offer the introductory course NCCP in track and field, called Sport Coach. This course introduces the coach to the essence of all events in athletics.

WHEN: February 18-19, 2011

WHERE: NBCC Moncton and University of Moncton

Cost: $ 100

Registration includes course materials, including a workbook, a reference guide and DVD that covers e all events of athletics. The course uses a combination of classroom learning and interactive sessions, hands-on activity designed to give coaches the experience with the techniques and training methods used in all areas of athletics.

Coaches must be prepared to participate actively in the learning of skills of running, jumping and throwing.

This course will be given in french but course material is available in English

Jan 22 2012 - ANB Athletes shine in Halifax

A small but talented group of New Brunswick Athletes traveled to Halifax this past Saturday to compete at the 2012 Nova Scotia Indoor Open.  Chelsey Hall (FFT) broke the 2000m New Brunswick midget girls record with a time of 6:59.99 while Livia Clarke (FFT) finished 3rd in the 300m with a new Personal best time of 43.69, Leah Macaulay (FFT) finished 2nd in the 600m with a time of 1:42.00. Taylor Dunn (FLTC) won the 1200m in 3:59.95. Alexondra Kiely (FFT) won the girls 60m hurdle in 10.10. Sarah Taplin (UNA) finished second in both the long jump (5m11) and the Triple Jump (11.15m).  Matthew McLaughlin was 3rd in the men’s 300m with a time of 38.02. Jan 18 2012 - Canada Games event coaches

Athletics New Brunswick is pleased to announce the addition of Carl Mcintosh (FLTC), Dominique Routhier-Leblanc (ASEA) and Peter Stuart (ASEA) to the 2013 Canada Games Coaching staff as event coaches. All of these coaches bring a wealth of knowledge and will insure that our 2013 team will be well prepared.  The 2013 Jeux du Canada Games to be held in Sherbrooke Quebec from August 2-17th, 2013. Jan 16 2012 - 4 Provincial records fall at Moncton Open

Over 230 athletes participated in the first indoor track and field meet of 2012 the Moncton Open. The meet saw great performance from Maritime athletes.  A total of 12 clubs and 6 university teams took part of this annual event organised by Athlétisme Sud Est /South East Athletics (ASEA) and l’Université de Moncton.


The competition saw many athletes achieve personal best and 4 athletes established New Brunswick Indoor records!

-Alexondra Kiely of Fredericton Fast Track broke the Midget girls Pentathlon  record with a score of 2298.

-Sidney MacDonald ASEA broke the Youth Girls Pentathlon record with a score of 2505.

- Ben Fowler of Saint John Track Club broke the Youth Boys pentathlon record by an astonishing 700 points to finish off with a point total of 2159.

-David Kerr of Fredericton Legion Track Club set a new Mark in the junior Boys Weight Throw with a toss of 11m74.

Multiple winners included Momodou Kujabi of ASEA (Senior 60m and 300m) Julien Leger  of Club Elite Kent(Youth Boys long jump & 60m ), Anthony Cormier Saint John Track (Midget 300m and Triple Jump), Peter Millman of Truro Track (Junior Boys Weight throw and Shot put)Drew Erskine of  Truro Track (Midget boys shot put and Weight throw),Shawna McKay of ASEA (Youth girls 60m and 200m), Genéviève Blizzard of ASEA (Midget Girls 300m & 200m), Kelly MacDonald of ST-FX ( Senior Girls 3000m and 1500m)  , Marilyn Nowlan Midget girls 60m and Long Jump

Jan 16 2012 - Jason Reindl New Provincial High Performance Coach

Athletics New Brunswick is extremely pleased to announced the hiring of Jason Reindl as High performance coach for ANB. Jason brings an incredible amount of experience and passion for the sport.

He is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan where he completed a Bachelor of Science – Kinesiology (Exercise & Sport) and a NCCP level 3 sprint/hurdles/distance and level 2 jumps coach . He is also the former Head coach of Saskatoon Track and field club, has coached with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and on a number of Saskatchewan provincial teams. Jason has had success as an athlete competing as a youth and as a member of the USaskatchewan Huskies capturing national titles in the hurdle and relay events.

Jason will be based out of the Saint John area and will start his function in mid-march which will be to provide support to high performance coaches/athletes at clubs around the province and be the head coach of the UNB Varsity Reds Track Team.

This position is financially supported through a 4 year commitment by the Province of New Brunswick - Department of Wellness, Culture and Sport and other funding partners.
