Nov 30 2010 - Athletics - Sport Coach Course

The Centre for Athletics – Atlantic, the Université de Moncton and ASEA are offering the introductory NCCP course in athletics, called Sport Coach. This course introduces the coach to the basics of all of the event areas in track & field as well as covering principles of athlete development, training design, and many other topics. The course will take place at l'Université de Moncton from December 10 to the 12.

Nov 30 2010 - 2010 AGSI Canadian Cross Country Championship

Snow and strong wind did not stop New Brunswick athletes perform very well at the 2010 AGSI Canadian Cross Country Championship this past weekend.

The junior girls 5km race saw 164runners, New Brunswick had one athlete in this race Grace Annear who with a time of 19:34.3 was finished 57th.

In the junior boy’s 8km race, 196 runners finished the race. ANB’s top finisher was Jérémie Pellerin (O2) who finished 44th with a time of 26:28.0. Matthew McNeil was 70th (SJTC) in 26:59.6, Lee Wesselius (ASEA) was 95th with a time of 27:18. Ian Forbes (FFT) was 117th in 27:44.5 while Scott McMullin (FFT) was 166th in 29:12.4.

The senior girl’s race saw Genevieve Lalonde (O2) make her début to Senior competition and she did not disappoint finishing 7th overall in the 7km race with a time of 24:35.8.

Also making his first appearance in the senior race was Barry Britt (SJTC) who was also able to finished 7th in a very competitive field completing the 10km race in 30:44.5. Joel Bourgeois was (O2) was able to finish 18th in a time of 31:40.0.

Alex Coffin (SJTC) finished 5th overall (4th in his age grouping) in the masters 8km race in a time of 27:00.5.

Nov 21 2010 - 10th annual Gagetown Invitational

Oromocto-  Over 180 athletes took part in the 10th annual Gagetown invitational track and field meet in Oromocto this past Saturday (Nov 20th). All 3 Maritime Provinces were represented including University Athletes from  l’Université de Moncton, Saint Mary’s University, Dalhousie University , Universityof New Brunswick, University of New Brunswick in Saint John and Cape Breton University.
The competition was a great success with 12 New Brunswick records being broken and 2 new Field house record.

Chelsey Hall [Fredericton] (FFT)  broke established a new provincial record in the bantam girls (U13)1200m with a time of 4:10.40 her time was even good enough to break the midget girls (U15) record!

Alexondra Kiely [Fredericton]  (ASEA) broke the 80m Hurdle bantam record with a time of 11.44.

Andrew Leblanc [Fredericton] (FFT)  broke the bantam boys 1200m record with a time of 4:11.11

Veronica Coombes (ASEA) had a great meet breaking 2 provincial records. Her 60m time of 14.78 Broke the existing 60m wheelchair T54 record by almost 1 second while her 200m time of 42.95 breaks the existing T54 wheelchair record by 2 seconds.

Rilind Dragoshi (ASEA also broke 2 provincial records , first his throw of 6.43m establishes a new record in the F11 Shot put. while his 60m time of 11.68 is a new provincial record in the T11 60m.

Christelle Frennette (ASEA) broke the 150m bantam girl’s record with a time of 21.20.


With a toss of 12.46 meters Riley Quigg [Saint John] (SJTC) broke the bantam boys shot put record by over 50cm.Not to be outdone by his little brother, Mitch Quigg [Saint John] (SJTC)  broke the Junior boys 60m hurdle record with a time of 8.87.

With a throw of 12.26m Naomie Maltais [Val d'Amour ] (ATG) broke the Junior weight throw record.

Simon Watts from  Prospect Nova Scotia (DAL) broke the Long jump facility record with a leap of 6.98m while is team mate  Seth London , from Halifax broke the field house record in the Weight throw with a toss of 14.57m

Nov 15 2010 - Pitney Bowes Sport Awards

This Saturday was the Sport NB Pitney Bowes Sport Awards. Athletics was the sport with the most nomination with 7 and we did not disappoint! Athletics New Brunswick had 5 winners. First of the President award (best junior athlete ) went to Adam Gaudes (FFT), the Spirit of Sport award went to Rilind Dragoshi (ASEA). The Boston Pizza male Coach of the Year went to Joel Bourgeois (O2) and for the first time ever of these awards both the Male and female Athlete award went to athletes from the same sport with Geneviève Lalonde (O2) winning the Comfort Inn Female Athlete of the Year and Caleb Jones (SJTC) winning the Comfort Inn male Athlete of the Year. Also we have to mention Cassidy Richards who won the president female award for swimming but is also one of the top ANB athletes. Congratulation to all the nominees and winners.


Nov 15 2010 - Geneviève Lalonde 3rd at CIS Cross Country Championships

While Genevièeve was not only busy this Saturday winning the Female Athlete of the Year for new Brunswick, she also took part atteh 2010 CIS cross country championships in Sheerbrooke, QC with a time of 18:14 (5km) she was able to finished 3rd and help her team from Guelph win the team title. Also taking part in this event was Jessica Belliveau who finished 15th, Adam Kellar who finished 66th and Jean Marc Doiron 68th.


Nov 15 2010 - Britt earns All- West Region Honors

Barry Britt finished 24th at the  NCAA West Regional XC. He earned All- West Region Honors. 10km in a superb time of  30:38.17. He was the top University of Idaho runner .Barry just missed  the qualifying NCAA National XC Championship by 4 spots. At these championship there were twenty five Universities, including 2nd and 3rd nationally ranked teams Oregon and Stanford competing for a total of 178  runners. Keep up the good job Barry 


Nov 1 2010 - 2010 ANB awards

Athletics New Brunswick is very pleased to announce the finalist for its annual award. The 2010 season was a historic one for track in field in New Brunswick.
