Oct 27 2011 - Finalists for ANB awards

Athletics New Brunswick is very pleased to announce the finalists for their annual awards. The awards will be handed out at the 2011 ANB Gala, being held on November 19th 2011 at Camp Gagetown in Oromocto.

The 2011 track and field season was one of New Brunswick’s most successful in history. Some of the highlights of the season include over 60 new provincial records along with many of our athletes named to national teams.

Both coach and volunteer of the year awards will be announced at the ANB Gala.

The ANB Gala will take place on November 19th 2011 at Camp Gagetown in Oromocto. Tickets for the Gala are $15 and must be purchased online at www.anb.ca  before November 11th. Please note that tickets will not be available after his date.


Oct 25 2011 - Leland and Landry named co-managers for 2013 games

Athletics New Brunswick is very proud to announce  2 additional staff that  will head the 2013 Canada Games Team. Sandy Leland of Quispamsis and Germain Landry of Frederiction have been appointed as co-managers and join current coaches, Yvan Pelletier of Fredericton and Jennifer Butler of Bathurst. '' These two individuals worked well together as managers for the 2009 Team. We are very pleased that both have offered to again work with our athletes as they achieve their goals '' said Harold Nicholson, Athletics New Brunswick President '' The 2013 Canada Games will be taking place in August of 2013 in Sherbrooke, Quebec.


Oct 25 2011 - Athletics New Brunswick is seeking event coaches for its Canada Summer Games Team

 

With the 2013 Canada Games less than 2 years away Athletics New Brunswick is looking to fill up to 3 positions for their coaching staff with enthusiastic and passionate coaches. The successful candidates will assist the head coach in all aspects related to the delivery of the program.  Applications received for this call might be used to fill more positions if needed next year.

Applicants are asks to outline their abilities in term of events in relation to the position in a cover letter and include a personal résumé along with the application form.  This is a volunteer position.

All successful applicants must attaint NCCP Competition Development Certification (old level 3) prior to the Games.

Oct 24 2011 - 2011 ATLANTIC JUMPS SUMMIT

The Centre for Athletics – Atlantic, in conjunction with Athletics New Brunswick and Athletics Nova Scotia, is hosting the second Atlantic Jumps Summit on November 11-13 2011 in Moncton NB at the Université de Moncton CEPS facility. This camp will offer a unique opportunity for athletes and coaches to receive training and technical advice from top-level coaches in all 4 jumping disciplines. The camp will offer a combination of practical training sessions along with classroom sessions aimed at developing all aspects of your jumping. Athletes and coaches will work closely with experienced clinicians in each event with the assistance of video analysis and other sport science tools to help bring a new level to your development.

Oct 7 2011 - Earl Church named to the Canadian Paralympic Hall of Fame

The Canadian Paralympic Committee announced today the selection of its 2011 hall of fame class. Among them is Dr. Earl Church who is currently coaching with Athleics New Brunswick.

Dr Earl Church becomes the first ever coach to be introduced. A native of Welland, Ontario. Dr. Church, who currently coaches athletics at the Universite de Moncton and  Athlétisme Sud-Est-South East Athletics in New Brunswick, was already a well-known and respected athletics coach before entering Paralympic sport in 1989. His involvement grew over the next 19 years to include coaching in four Paralympic Games (1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004) in addition to many World Championships and other international events. He was part of the coaching staff of the first fully integrated athletics team at the 1994 World Athletic Championships. Many of his athletes, including three time Paralympic gold medallist, Joanne Berdan, have earned world and Paralympic medals and credit Dr. Church for providing them with the boost they needed to make it to the next level. He has also served as a mentor to many Para-Athletics coaches.

"I know that there are many outstanding coaches who deserve this opportunity so I am both humbled and honoured to receive this award," said Dr. Church. "To be inducted into the Paralympic Hall of Fame is really special."

Joining Church in the CPC Hall of fame are athletes Ljiljana (Lilo) Ljubisic (Goalball and Para-Athletics), Clayton Gerien (athletics) , Michael Edgson (Swimming)  and Senator Joyce Fairbairn in the builder category.

‘’Earl has been a incredible asset to Athletics New Brunswick since he moved here 3 years ago’’ says ANB Technical Director Gabriel LeBlanc ‘’His leadership and know-how has helped us become contender in Para Athletics in Canada and he is truly deserving of this  great honour’’

About the Canadian Paralympic Hall of Fame

Initiated in 2000, the Canadian Paralympic Hall of Fame recognizes and celebrates those who have made a significant contribution to the growth and development of the Paralympic Movement in Canada. These individuals will be acknowledged within the Canadian Paralympic Hall of Fame Honoured Members section located in the Olympic and Paralympic Gallery at Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in Calgary. Joining the ranks of many incredible individuals who have established the success of the Paralympic Movement, inductees to the Canadian Paralympic Hall of Fame will be celebrated and admired by all Canadians who visit Canada's Sports Hall of Fame now and in the future. The Canadian Paralympic Committee holds an induction process every two years, during a non-Games year.


Oct 6 2011 - Hub City Track & Field Classic Part of the NTL

The Moncton Hub City Track & Field Classic has conditionally been approved for inclusion in the 2012 series pending budget and business plan approval.  The competition will take place at Moncton Stadium, site of the 2010 World Junior Championships, on the campus of Université de Moncton.  Although not part of the NTL in 2011, the event was held successfully by working with and forging a close partnership with the organizing committee of the Aileen Meagher in Halifax, N.S.
