Nov 14 2012 - Harold Nichlson wins national award

Out of some 40 plus nominations, our Past President, Harold Nicholson, was awarded the national Investors Group Volunteer Sport Administrator of the Year Award at the Coaching Association of Canada Awards Gala in Montreal on Friday 10 November, 2012. The Awards Gala was part of CAC’s Sport Leadership Conference.

Asked to comment, Harold replied:

Recognition of my efforts to build a well respected amateur sport organization here in New Brunswick at no time ever crossed my mind. When I first took over as President of Athletics New Brunswick in 1989 it was a small, “kitchen-table” organization with little written policies and mired in petty jealousies between various clubs. As its new President I was determined to see that the association had a written set of policies and procedures that was transparent and fair to all members no matter where they were located across New Brunswick.  Some 22 years later when I finally stepped down – it was likely long past the time to do so – and with the help of a lot of people, and I want to mention one in particular, our Technical Director from 2000 to 2011, Dave Thomas, along with Carol Mulholland and Gabe LeBlanc  – I feel I turned over to my successor an well organized and run association that is very highly regarded by both our main “sponsor”, the provincial government, and our national body, Athletics Canada.
