Oct 19 2018 - NBIAA Provincial Champs Recap

It was a cool 4°C for cross country running in Moncton, as Bernice MacNaughton hosted the 2018 NBIAA Provincial Cross Country Championships. Despite the cold temperatures, athletes ran exceptionally well and put on some great races for the spectators.

In Jr. Girls 4km action, Erin Vringer of Saint John High School saw the finish line first with a time of 15:02.40, followed by Emily Doucet of M-F Richard, and Madeleine Mcleod of École Sainte-Anne. Vringer led SJHS to a team victory with 43 points alongside teammates Maia Grant (10th), Ella Rocca (14th), Claire Oliver (18th), and Abigail McKinley (21st).

Jr. Boys saw François Richard of École Mathieu-Martin cross the line first in a time of 14:12.40, followed by Kennebecassis Valley High School’s Cameron Harris, and École Mathieu-Martin’s Andon Morneault. Richard and Morneault helped Mathieu-Martin take the team title with a score of 31, alongside teammates Frédéric Parent (7th), Samuel Beaupré (20th), and Nicholas Frenette (47th).

Fredericton High School dominated in the Senior Girls 6km, taking all 4 top spots. Danielle Keefe took home first in a time of 25:40.90, while Sisters Emily and Hannah Trites took home second and third respectively. Fredericton High swept the podium, helping them claim the Senior Girls banner with 10 points alongside teammates Frances Wright (4th), Emily Haynes-MacDonald (7th) and Mackenzie Hall (15th).

In the Senior Boys 6km, Tristan Morneault of École Mathieu-Martin took the gold in a time of 23:42.00, followed by Mitchell Kean of Leo Hayes High School, and Julien Thibodeau of École Secondaire Népisiguit. École Secondaire Népisiguit took home the team title with 48 points with help from teammates Samuel Jean (10th), Jonathan Roy (15th), Cédric Haché (20th), Xavier Violette (42nd) and Dominic Robichaud (54th).
