NB Open Coffin Report

Well it was a great weekend and I have some fantastic memories from Provincials.

-That was a great heat in the 300 with Erin and Katie duking it out with Amy Lynn Grant. Amy Lynn was a sprint medalist in the North American Hersheys!!

-Cole Healey threw down a 150 metre final sprint in the 1000 that had to be seen to be believed!!

-Matt McNeil broke the 2:10 barrier in the 800!!

-It is tough not to underestimate certain performances by athletes when you come to expect that level but our championship athletes like Reid Burrows (Legions), Anthony Cormier (Hersheys), Erin Kelly (Hersheys), Nick MacMackin (Hersheys), Matthew McNeil (Legions), Katie Robinson (Hersheys), Josh Shanks (Hersheys) and Grace Annear (Canada Games) definitely inspire our other club members.

-You didn’t have to win to have a great finish. Other notable surges at the end of their races to claim or defend a position included Michael Campbell (although he won his race too), Bridget Flood, Brady Graves and Emilee Hoellwarth!!

-Double champions include Anthony Cormier, Victoria Fowler, Brenna Kettlewell (triple!!), Liam Kettlewell and Nick MacMackin!!

-It’s great to see active families. The Coffins, the Floods, the Hoellwarths, the Kennedys and the Kettlewells all had multiple athletes at the meet.

-Saint John Track was the dominant club in hurdles. A big thank you to Dave Thomas for leading the charge!

-It wasn’t just hurdles either. We dominated in shot put with only Coach Coffin getting creamed by the big boys! Our participation in the long jump dwarfed the other clubs. Now if we can only get some of our kids to try high jump!!

-Overall, a great meet with everyone having fun!! Congratulations!!!!

Feb 02, 2010: Congratulations to Mitch Quigg and Matt McNeil for representing the club at the McGill track meet. We'll hopefully get the stories from them about their events on Thursday night. Please find attached the pro tip from last week that I posted on facebook and the pro tip from this week. If you are on facebook, be sure to join as a member of the Saint John Track Club.

Pro Tip from January 28: Bad form can come from poor posture so be sure to do exercises that help with your posture. A simple step can be simply trying to stay tall in your normal routine and trying not to slouch.

Pro Tip for February 2: If you are going to run outside on a cold day, make sure you keep the run relatively short and come back "with the wind".

15TH ANNUAL McGILL TEAM CHALLENGE 2010 - Montreal

Two SJTC athletes are having an opportunity to compete at a major indoor meet along with other NB athletes. Mitch Quigg and Matt McNeil will be attending the McGill Team Challenge in Montreal at the end of January in conjunction with the Center for Athletics - Atlantic (CAA).

Mitch will be competing in the Pentathlon and Matt in the 3000m. This partnership with the CAA allows us to offer an opportunity for selected NB athletes to attend one of the largest indoor meets in Canada. The level of competition in this meet is very high, aimed at university teams and competitive open athletes. We wish Mitch and Matt good luck at this exciting meet.
